In accordance with the Bylaws, the Executive Council of ESGO shall be composed of sixteen (16) duly elected Council members including the Executive officers. The term of office for elected Council members is four (4) years, the term of office for the elected Officers is two (2) years. In order to ensure the continuity of the Society, elections are held biennially while rotating half of the Council every 2 years (Council members elected in 2007 will hold the office until 2011, Council members elected in 2009 will hold the office until 2013).
The ESGO Officers are elected by the ESGO Council, and the ESGO Council members are chosen amongst the ESGO members. All ESGO Active members (=Europeans) are entitled to nominate candidates, vote or hold elective office or committee positions.
Criteria for nomination:
The candidate must be ESGO an Active member of good-standing with activated 2009 membership
The candidate must have good knowledge of the English language
Council members are expected to work for the benefit of the Society, to actively participate in running activities and projects, and attend Executive Council meetings.
ELECTION OF ESGO COUNCIL MEMBERS
For the period 2009-2013, 7 elected positions of Council Members are open.
All ESGO Active members with activated 2009 membership have the right to submit a nomination of 2 candidates. The Nomination Committee, consisting of the President-Elect, the President and the immediate Past-President, has the right to make a final slot and nominate additional candidates to ensure the representation on Council from each geographic region of Europe. The selected candidates will be asked to confirm their nomination and send a short 10 line motivation statement and photo (not mandatory). Selected candidates will be presented on the ESGO website and the site will be open for voting.

Primaries (Nominations): March 27– May 8, 2009
Final slot of candidates: May 8 – June 30
Final ballots: September 6- October 4, 2009 Announcement of results: October 12, 2009 (ESGO16 congress, Business meeting)
ELECTION OF ESGO OFFICERS
For the period 2009-2011, 2 elected positions are open (President-Elect and Vice President)
According to the Bylaws, only a member of the Executive Council of at least 4 years is eligible and the term of office is 2 (two) years. Both future ESGO leaders will be voted by the current ESGO Council during the ESGO Council Meeting in June 2009. The results will be announced on the ESGO website.
